Laura Merchut

Laura Merchut, a Northwestern University graduate and energetic performer, arts administrator and teaching artist, is thrilled to be a part of Be the Groove. Laura explored a love of rhythm and movement through dance, studying ballet, tap, jazz and hip-hop throughout a majority of her life. It was at Northwestern, when she became a member of Boomshaka, that she was able to embrace that passion while fulfilling a long-time desire to learn drumming. Laura spends her non-Be the Groove hours performing in plays and musicals around Chicagoland, as well as spreading her love of the arts as a teaching artist at Picture Us Different Dance Studio and Metropolis Performing Arts Center, where she works in the Outreach Department. A lot of her free time goes to her new husband, Sean. Too bad there isn’t more of it!
