CHICAGO-BASED RHYTHMIC PERFORMANCE ENSEMBLE SHAKES THINGS UP TO HELP BRING VIBRANCY TO THE LOOP
BE THE GROOVE INFUSES LOOPTOPIA WITH ITS TRADEMARK RHYTHM AND ENERGY
CHICAGO, April 22, 2008 – Be the Groove, a Chicago-based rhythmic performance ensemble, brings its unique blend of percussion and dance to the Loop for an exciting outdoor performance. Featuring fierce drumming, intense body percussion, and explosive hip hop dance, Be the Groove will infuse downtown Chicago with its trademark rhythm and energy. At 8pm, as the dusk-to-dawn celebration of Chicago artistry picks up, the group will use everything from trashcans to their own bodies to celebrate rhythm in a free concert at the Federal Plaza (located at Dearborn and Adams).
After performing at venues such as Ravinia, Old Town School of Folk Music, and McCormick Place, Be the Groove is thrilled to bring its show into the heart of Chicago. “Be the Groove is incredibly passionate about performance. The opportunity to share our love of rhythm with the Chicago community at Looptopia is incredibly exciting and we can’t wait to hit the stage,” says Artistic Director and Co-Founder Stephanie Paul.

Be the Groove is a rhythmic performance ensemble that believes rhythm is not just a beat—rhythm is a mode of expression. This Chicago based group fuses a variety of movement, percussion, and rhythmic techniques to create a unique style of its own. Through high-energy performances and a strong commitment to education, Be the Groove seeks to share its love of rhythm with people everywhere.
Formed in 2006 by Artistic Director Stephanie Paul and Executive Director Davora Sides, Be the Groove has quickly established a reputation for entertaining audiences in the Chicago dance and arts community and has performed at such venues as the Ravinia Festival, Old Town School of Folk Music, and Dance Chicago. In addition, Be the Groove has built a significant resume performing in corporate venues including the International Home and Housewares Show at McCormick Place, NeoCon’s World Trade Show at Merchandise Mart and Sara Lee’s National Sales Conference.

Inspired by “White Night” events in cities like Rome, Paris, and Madrid, Looptopia made its wildly successful debut as the first American event of its kind last year.
